Cat trees for small spaces

A cat tree needs room for more than its base. When floor space is limited, compare the whole shape and the space your cat needs to climb in, turn around and rest.

Measure the spot, then the tree

Mark out the base on the floor. Check whether the bed or a platform extends beyond it, and leave access to the den opening where there is one. A space beside a door may fit the base but still get in the way when the door opens.

The selected models combine a scratching surface with a resting place; one also has a den. Compare the sleeping area with the space your cat uses at home. A smaller base does not automatically mean a suitable bed.

Does a short tree always take up less room?

No. Height, base size and the widest part are different measurements. Check each one and follow the assembly and anchoring instructions for the model.
